FLIGHT TEST IS MARCH 26:
An excellent place to study is https://questaplus.alberta.ca/Flight Unit Test: Study Guide
Mrs. E, where is my practice test? Well, head on over to https://questaplus.alberta.ca/ (link is also on the weebly), click on practice tests and go to air and flight. It has all the questions you need.
What do I need to know?
· Why do hot air balloons rise?
· How can a hot air balloon safely descend? What does descend mean?
· Parts of a plane – what do they look like? How do they work? Lots about this.
· Why would 2 sets of spinning blades be better for a helicopter?
· 4 forces of flight
· Look at a graph to answer questions
· Why do jets cause planes to fly?
· How does a rocket work?
· Difference between aircraft and spacecraft

AWESOME WEBSITE
So the quest+ website is pretty cool. It has old PAT questions on it, that are organized really well. It is free, and is a fabulous way to study or review concepts covered. Interested? Just click here. Want a cool flight simulator, go here
The Amazing Wind Machine
is due on __________. Don't be late! Want some inspiration? Check below. But, maybe make the Wind Blaster 3, not 3 thousand or 3 million :-)
Characteristics of Air Study Guide
1. You will have to match a property of air (takes up space, exerts pressure, can be compressed, has mass/weight, expands when heated and contracts when cooled) to an experiment summary or scenario.
Ex: Hot air balloon – hot air expands
Balancing balloons – air has mass.
2. Provide a useful purpose in everyday life for the properties of air (they cannot be the same as the ones given for question #1)
3. What is Bernoulli’s principle? Explain what it is and why it works.
Air and Air Dynamics Practice Test
Mrs. E, you're so awesome! Thanks for making me this practice test. Now where did I put it? Oh dear. I better print off another copy:

Air and Air Dynamics Study Guide
For each point below, write notes/draw pictures that describe the characteristic of air. Be sure to include notes about labs that demonstrated this principle.
· Air takes up space and exerts pressure
-proof:
-application:
· Air is a fluid and can be compressed
-proof:
-application:
· Describe and demonstrate instances of Bernoulli’s Principle
-description:
-3 pictures:
· Recognize that in order to fly, an object must have more lift than gravity
-picture of plane/bird with 4 forces:
· Identify adaptations that allow birds and insects to fly
-list 5 adaptations:
· Recognize that streamlining reduces drag, and predict how changes will affect drag
· Recognize that air is composed of different gases, and identify evidence of these gases.
A plane will ascend when… _________________ is greater than _____________
A plane will descend when … _________________ is greater than ________________
A plane will accelerate when … ________________ is greater than __________________
A plane will decelerate when … _________________ is greater than __________________
A plane will hover (theoretical) when …
