Well, my first book to read this summer was definitely "The Unwanteds" by Lisa McMann. This book was promised to be "The Hunger Games meets Harry Potter," and it definitely was!
I liked the idea of a conflict between creativity and order/discipline. In a very minor way, I see this conflict within my own family. My dad, for example, is incredibly disciplined (just wait until I tell you about the labelled light switches). Me? Not so much. My life is a series of "piles": books to read, papers to file, recipes to try, projects to finish ... At times this caused conflict in my childhood. I'm not necessarily one to finish a project so much as one to have 3 projects on the go!
This book is the first in a series, and I'm always reluctant to read books like this. Often the first book is setting up the next books to come. I found that to be true for this book as well. The battle scene really just opened up book 2. Overall, I liked this book, and if you are interested in dystopian novels, this would be for you.
